The Chinese Academy of Sciences announced newly added academicians in 2019 on January 22. We offer congratulations to Ye Zhizhen, a former independent director of HC SemiTek and professor of the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Zhejiang University, for his election as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences! As a former independent director of HC SemiTek from February 2011 to May 2017, Prof. Ye made outstanding contributions to the company’s technological advance and the application of R&D achievements.

Mr. Ye Zhizhen, who graduated from the Optical Instrument Engineering Department of Zhejiang University with a doctorate in optical instrument, is currently a professor of the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Zhejiang University, director of the academic committee of the school, and doctoral tutor. He was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2019. He has been engaged in research on inorganic photoelectric materials such as zinc oxide and key technologies for wide-bandgap semiconductors. He has achieved innovation achievements in p-Type ZnO doping technology and LED devices, ZnO-based transparent conductive thin films and transparent electronic devices, nano-materials controllable preparation as well as environmental and sensing applications. The p-type binary co-doping theory created by him is widely adopted by international peers. The binary co-doping technology and electroluminescence (EL) are world-leading technologies. He has developed n-type high conductivity doping technology and made breakthrough in indium-free transparent conductive materials. Adopted by LED chip companies, this technology brings significant benefits to the company. The company is the main leader in the international photovoltaic zinc oxide field. He has published over 600 academic papers and 2 monographs, and participated in the editing of 2 books. He was granted 111 invention patents in China, and one international invention patent.

He was named the National Advanced Worker of National Key Labs and won the “Golden Bull Award” in 1994; selected as one of the first “Young and Middle-aged Academic Leaders” in Zhejiang Province in 1995; selected under the “Cross-Century Outstanding Talent” program by the Ministry of Education in 1996; selected under the national “New Century Talents Project” and was granted the special allowance of the State Council in 1997; hired as one of the first distinguished professors of Zhejiang University in 2006; named the “Young and Middle-aged Experts with Outstanding Contributions in Zhejiang Province” in 2007; rated a senior expert of Zhejiang province and “Outstanding Returnee in Zhejiang Province” in 2008; named an instructor for one hundred outstanding doctoral dissertations in China in 2008 and 2010; named the advanced individual for “cultivation of students through teaching, management and services” in Zhejiang Province, a model for imparting knowledge and educating people in Zhejiang University, and Baosteel outstanding teacher in 2012; named an advanced individual for teacher's professional ethics in Zhejiang Province in 2013; rated as a National Excellent Teacher and Provincial Outstanding Communist Party Member, and awarded the first prize for university teaching achievements in Zhejiang Province in 2014; and nominated for Zhejiang University Yongping Teaching Contribution Award in 2016. As the first accomplisher, he won one second prize of State Natural Science Award, three first prizes of Provincial Science and Technology Award, and four second prizes of provincial and ministerial science and technology awards. He was named an instructor for one hundred outstanding doctoral dissertations in China in 2008 and 2010. He won such honors as National Advanced Worker of National Key Labs, National Excellent Teacher, Baosteel outstanding teacher, Zhejiang Outstanding CPC Member, and advanced individual for “cultivation of students through teaching, management and services” in Zhejiang Province.

From 2011 to 2017, HC SemiTek entered the fast track of large-scale growth. By entering the capital market and integrating upstream resources of LED, HC SemiTek achieved advantages of scale and quickly became the second largest LED chip manufacturer in China. It continued to boost epitaxial wafers and chip technology and actively tapped the emerging markets to increase its market share. During this period, Prof. Ye Zhizhen performed an active role in guiding and leading the company’s team building and technological advance and innovation. He was also actively involved in the company’s forward-looking technology exploration and development in the field of third-generation semiconductor materials and devices after registration. The company will foster cooperation among the enterprise, universities and research institutes, promote the industrialization of achievements and the combination of universities and enterprise, step up its independent R&D efforts, and cooperate with outstanding academicians and scientists in producing excellent Chinese chips!
